Genesis offers this service to the parent or guardian of children or disabled adults who are in need of specialized services through the public school system or community. Our Parent Advocates have experience in obtaining necessary services to help clients who may need Individualized Education Plans, specialized therapies (for example, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy), disability services, etc.
The Genesis Parent Advocate can come alongside a parent of a special needs child to help them navigate the often difficult path of obtaining necessary services for their child or loved one. The Genesis Parent Advocates can be available to assist at FAPT meetings, Teacher/Parent meetings, disability hearings, etc. Rates are by the hour and will include travel costs, when applicable.
It is often helpful to first schedule a meeting with a Genesis Licensed Clinical Psychologist to obtain a full psychological evaluation. The Genesis Psychologist will then provide the parent/caregiver with a written report documenting recommendations for additional services to meet the need of the client. A Parent Advocate can then support the parent/caregiver in following the Psychologist's recommendations for any necessary services outside Genesis (for example, Individualized Education Plans and disability hearings).
